Spend quality time with your child while having fun and learning in a social setting.

Through structured water interaction between parent and child, we emphasize the importance of play to develop positive attitudes and techniques toward water. We provide Aqua Bon safety tips from the Lifesaving Society to help keep your child safe in all aquatic environments. Certified instructors guide the learning process and answer your questions.

Since activities and progressions are based on your child’s development, you will enroll in the level appropriate for their age:

  • 4 to 12 months (parents-enfants 1)
  • 12 to 24 months (parents-enfant 2)
  • 2 to 3 years (parents-enfants 3)

With parent in the water (the child gradually learns to swim without the parent)

Duration: 25 minutes, with mandatory flotation device – gradually removed at the child’s pace.

We encourage the parent to participate until the child indicates they can do it on their own (thank you very much). These preschool-aged children will have fun learning how to enter and exit the water. We will assist them in jumping into the water at chest height. They will try floating and gliding on their stomach and back. They will also learn to wet their face and blow bubbles underwater.

blank

Without parent in the water / Duration: 25 minutes, flotation device mandatory (at the beginning).

Prerequisite: completion of the performance criteria from the previous level (Preschool 1).

These preschool-aged children will learn to jump into the water at chest height on their own, as well as how to enter and exit the water while wearing a personal flotation device (PFD). They will be able to submerge and exhale underwater. With the help of a PFD, they will glide on their stomach and back.

blank

Without parent in the water / Duration: 25 minutes / No flotation aid

Prerequisite: completion of the performance criteria from the previous level (Preschool 2)

These children will try both jumping into deep water and performing a lateral roll while wearing a PFD. They will retrieve objects from the bottom of the water at waist height. They will learn leg kicks and glides on their stomach and back.

blank

Without parent in the water / Duration: 25 minutes / No flotation aid

Prerequisite: completion of the performance criteria from the previous level (PRESCHOOL 3)

These preschoolers with more advanced skills will learn to jump alone into deeper water and exit without assistance. They will perform lateral rolls to enter the water and will open their eyes underwater. They will master glides and leg kicks on their side and will be able to swim a short distance (5 meters) on their stomach, wearing a PFD.

blank

Without parent in the water / Duration: 25 minutes / No flotation aid

Prerequisite: completion of the performance criteria from the previous level (PRESCHOOL 4)

These children will become more adventurous by performing a forward roll entry into the water while wearing a PFD. They will swim in place for 10 seconds. They will practice front crawl and backstroke over a distance of 5 meters, interval training, and have fun performing simultaneous flutter kicks.

Program Nageur 1 to 6 (6 to 12 years old)

blank

The six levels of the Lifesaving Society’s Swimmer Module are designed to ensure that children learn to swim before venturing too far into deep water.

The progressions in this module are tailored for children aged 6 and older, including both beginner swimmers and those looking to improve their existing basic skills.

We focus on plenty of in-water exercises to develop a strong foundation in swimming and aquatic skills. We incorporate safety tips from the Lifesaving Society’s AquaBon program at all levels of the Swimmer module.

blank

Duration: 25 minutes
Prerequisite: Aged 6 years and older

No swimming experience is required.
These beginner swimmers will become comfortable with jumping into the water both with and without a Personal Flotation Device (PFD). They will learn to open their eyes, exhale, and hold their breath underwater. They will practice floating, gliding, and kicking to move through the water on their stomach and back.

blank

Duration: 25 minutes
Prerequisites: Aged 6 years and older, and having met the performance criteria of the previous level (SWIMMER 1)

These swimmers with more advanced skills will jump into deeper water and learn not to fear falling into the water sideways while wearing a PFD. They will be able to swim in place without floatation assistance, learn the simultaneous rotary kick, and swim 10 meters on their stomach and back. They will also be introduced to interval training for alternating leg kicks (4 x 5 meters).

blank

Duration: 40 minutes
Prerequisites: Aged 6 years and older, and having met the performance criteria of the previous level (SWIMMER 2)

These young swimmers will perform dives, forward rolls in the water, and handstands. They will practice front crawl and backstroke over 15 meters, as well as 10 meters with the simultaneous rotary kick. Interval training for alternating leg kicks will increase to 4 x 15 meters.

blank

Duration: 40 minutes
Prerequisites: Aged 6 years and older, and having met the performance criteria of the previous level (SWIMMER 3)

These intermediate swimmers will swim 5 meters underwater and complete lengths of front crawl, backstroke, simultaneous rotary kick, and breaststroke arms, including the breathing technique for breaststroke. Their final achievement includes demonstrating the Canadian Swim to Survive standard. To top it off, they will perform sprints in front crawl over 25 meters and interval training in front crawl and backstroke with 4 x 25 meters.

blank

Duration: 40 minutes
Prerequisites: Aged 6 years and older, and having met the performance criteria of the previous level (SWIMMER 4)

These swimmers will master surface dives, tuck jumps (in a ball position), alternating rotary kick, and backflips in the water. They will improve their swimming over 50 meters in front crawl and backstroke, and 25 meters in breaststroke. They will then increase their pace with sprints over 25 meters and two interval training exercises: 4 x 50 meters in front crawl or backstroke, and 4 x 15 meters in breaststroke.

blank

Duration: 40 minutes
Prerequisites: Aged 6 years and older, and having met the performance criteria of the previous level (SWIMMER 5)

These advanced swimmers will tackle sophisticated aquatic skills such as stop jumps, compact jumps, and lifesaving kicks, including alternating rotary kick and scissors kick. They will develop strength and power with breaststroke sprints with their heads raised over 25 meters. They will swim effortlessly over long distances in front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke. They will also be able to perform training exercises over 300 meters.
